I was wondering why Japanese girls invariably flash a peace sign in every photo, and there's a story that it all goes back to Janet Lynn's fall in the 1972 Winter Olympics in Sapporo. Here's a version of it.

Oh the Peace Sign goes back further than that. Gen McArthur started it when he flashed the two fingered-sign during a conference whereby he promised Peace to Japan during the war. It was picked up instantly from there.
